During a visit from the Church at Cedar Creek

Health promoters in Los Conucos with their new shirts

A short-term team from the Church at Cedar Creek (Cedar Creek, KY) came with the express purpose of interacting with the volunteer communty health promoters and appreciating the work that those volunteers perform to improve the health in their communities. During the course of their week here, the team members:
  • visited eight of the communities;
  • met with promoters and heard them describe their communties;
  • heard about the health needs and the interventions performed by the health promoters;
  • attended four fiestas.

The purpose of the fiestas was to demonstrate appreciation for all the volunteer hours and efforts that the health promoters dedicate to their communities. Fiestas occurred in three of the rural communities.

A fourth, final, large fiesta included all the urban and peri-urban health promoter groups. The picture shows health promoters and members of the short-term team at the last fiesta.

Among other things, the group made it possible for each promoter to receive a shirt like the ones in the picture at the top of the page. The promoter group in Quisqueya told the group that this was an answer to their prayers. They had been talking about getting caps or some kind of identifying clothing, but did not have the resources locally to to this. The shirts were a perfect answer to their wishes!

The Church at Cedar Creek provided the resources to have the shirts made and for the fiestas to occur. It was a blessing not only to the volunteer health promoters, but also to the whole community health staff at the Clinic who appreciated the team's interest in (and support of) the community health work here.
