You know you’re a "Missionary Kid" when …

… someone asks you where you enjoy hanging out and you immediately think of happy hours spent in international airports.

family hang-outs, at the Miami International Airport during a recent trip.

You know you’re an MK* when

“… someone asks you where you enjoy hanging out and you immediately think of happy hours spent in international airports.”†

One of our favorite restaurants is in the Miami International Airport, Concourse D, across from Gate 49. We discovered it more than a decade ago when we were still traveling with all four of our girls. Many years ago, we were outlining our travel plans and, having discovered that we had a layover in Miami at dinner time, the girls all said, “Oh, great! We can eat at that restaurant in Concourse D, across from Gate 49!” It took Anita and me a moment to place where they were talking about, but the girls all knew.

It some ways that restaurant helps to mark the transition point – last chance outbound or first chance inbound to get “American” food (at least to the extent that airport food is generally representative of American cuisine).

But, mostly, it has simply been an enjoyable family hang-out over the years.

We would be glad to share our recommendations from The Islander Bar & Grill menu in case you are passing through the 'MIA' airport. Just write us and ask.
