A Place to Play
About three years ago, the city of San Pedro de Macorís (population about 120,000) built its first (and so far the only) public playground for children.
Before that, the only choices for children were to play in the streets or to go to one of the 'private' playgounds: the one at the Lion's Club or at the Sisters of the Transfiguration's Buen Pastor school or the one in the picture that occupies the grassy area in front of the Clinic.
It is a popular place for children waiting while a mother or a brother or sister is seen at the Clinic. As it happens, these four children are all established patients at the Clinic.
