Clínica Esperanza y Caridad

Clínica Esperanz y Caridad is a health ministry of la Iglesia Episcopal Dominicana, the Episcopal Church in the Dominican Republic. It opened in 1998 near the waterfront in San Pedro de Macorís along the southern coast of the Dominican Republic The opening was about two weeks after Hurricane Georges that caused major damage on the island (including blowing off the rear third of the Clinic's roof !). The Clinic initially offered general medical care provided by volunteer physicians and a fledgling physical therapy program as an affiliate of the Asociación Dominicana de Rehabilitación (the Dominican Rehabilitation Association). Today the clinic is quite active.

Initial support also came from Esperanza Internacional, a Christian micro-economic devleopment organization here.

Over the years, the Clinic has expanded its services for the poor as opportunities arose. The clinic now has more than sixty employees and volunteers. Ongoing programs include rehabilitation, curative medicine, preventive medicine, mental health, community health, and health education. The Clinic is an affiliate of the Asociación Dominicana de Rehabilitación (the Dominican Rehabilitation Association).

Ancillary services include a laboratory. Special programs include confidential HIV testing & counseling, an HIV treatment center, and a vaccination post in cooperation with Dominican Public Health.
